Tips to Make Your Flowers Last that Little Bit Longer

  • Please use the flower food supplied. An alternative method is to add a couple of drops of household bleach to the flower water to guard against the slime caused by bacteria and add a pinch of sugar.

  • In general, stems should be cut at an angle as this will increase the surface area for them to take up water.

  • Woody stemmed flowers, like roses and chrysanthemums, benefit from having the bottoms of their stems crushed and then split to help them take up water.

  • Bulb flowers such as daffodils and tulips should have their stems cleaned under cold running water. This will wash away the sticky white secretion at the base and lengthen their life.

  • Don't leave flowers in warm rooms overnight. You can extend their life by putting them in a cool room while you are asleep.

  • Don't forget to top up your vases with fresh water every day for long lasting displays. Flowers will not last if they are left to dry out. This is especially important for roses.

  • Avoid placing flowers on a window sill which is likely to be in direct sunlight as this will cause them to wilt and possibly dry out.

  • Do not place flowers near any fruit as the gases given off by the fruit can affect them.

We hope you enjoy your flowers and that these tips will help you get the most out of them.
